Daily QT 8/4/2007 Mark 4: 21-25

21
He said to them, "Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don't you put it on its stand? 22For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

24"Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. 25Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him."

Jesus says let yo' light shine before men. When He commands us to share our lives despite all that we are, I need to take heart and take the courage to do what it takes to share the Gospel. For me this may be teaching them annoying kids on Sundays, maybe for someone with a musical talent, playing in a band, etc. Whatever gifts He has endowed us with, I hear Jesus calling us to first account for it, develop it, then go out and put it to good use. When my sins and all the things that so easily entangle stops me from bringing out the lamp in me, lemme remember that it is the light that I yam called to share. amen.

Amen, Woodan. For so long I used my talents and blessings only for my own ends. I pray that the Lord will show me how best to use the gifts He has given me to serve His ends.

I also think verses 21-22 speak to our tendency to be over-modest. How many times have I heard people (particularly Christians) say "oh, I can't do that" or "I'm not equipped." Nonsense! Through God, He will give us whatever talents we need to do His will. We do not know all that we are capable of doing. This over-modesty is too often used as an excuse. Remember, Jesus chose a stammerer, Moses, to be His spokesman in front of Pharoah. Let us use whatever God has given us proudly and openly. By denigrating our talents, we denigrate the Giver of those talents.`
