Daily QT: 08/12/2007 Mark 5:21-24
21When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." 24So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.

I'm sure that many in the mob had requests for Jesus. How did he choose who to hear? It didn't sound like they were waiting in an orderly line. Was it just the one who was the loudest? most aggressive? most obviously in need? Somehow, I don't think so - but I do wonder. Sounds like bedlam. I'm amazed he wasn't crushed (I keep picturing Michael Jackson running from his crazed fans in his videos) - or that he didn't get fed up and irritated. (I picture Sean Penn punching out the paparazzi). Truly Jesus was the Son of God! For only He could have shown such grace at all times and under all circumstances.
I'm intrigued by Jesus' seemingly ongoing routine of intentionally leaving one crowd behind only to run into another crowd ahead. I wonder whether this crowd phenomema is part of a deliberate public relations strategy or simply a natural result of man's fascination with celebrity.
