The Book of Mark
Chapter 4 (NIV)

1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge. 2He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3"Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."

What kind of soil am I? Soil, representative of the heart with which one receives the seed (the word of God), is of utmost importance in producing fruit. It takes both the farmer planting the seed and the soil that is fertile. Yet God provides the seed to us all. What does it mean to be a good soil? I guess there are many answers, but I was thinking the kind that really takes care of the seed. Wrapping it around, giving it care, providing all the nutrients necessary to spawn, patiently sticking with it as it grows and shoots out of the soil. I'm not entirely certain whether I give such care and attention to the Word of God. I pray that I will be a good soil today. amen.

i wonder how everyone was able to hear JC...i wonder that cuz i keep reading how hundreds and literally thousands of ppl gathered. it just beats me how the ppl in the last row or at the very end fringes of the crowd was able to see/hear Him. did ppl repeat back to those further away?

anyhow, just like the parable, i wonder how many of the crowd was like that of good soil, or shallow, or rocky or with thorns..or the path. and how am i? JC talks about how the farmer sows. funny how he sows his seed everywhere. usually the farmer will try to sow seeds in the land he tilled and plowed, cuz obviously he wants them to bear fruit. but in this parable, he sows seeds everywhere regardless of the condition of the soil.

like that i think we should share the Gospel everywhere with everyone. and not hold ourselves back by thinking "oh, but he's not ready" or "she wont receive it well"

and on our part, we should work towards tilling and plowing our hearts to be a fertile soil for the seed of Gospel to carry out its transformative power in our lives

Daniel, I love your comment that it is not for us to judge whether someone is ready or not to hear the word. Woosub, I also think about the kind of soil I am. I think I have been the rocky soil. But I pray that this time, I allow the Holy Spirit to dig deep roots into my soul and bear fruit.

I also thought about Jesus projecting from the Lake. I imagined that he just spoke in a normal voice and yet each person there felt as if Jesus were speaking right next to Him or Her.
