The Book of Mark
Chapter 2 (NIV)

10But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . ." He said to the paralytic, 11"I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home." 12He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"

I always wondered why Jesus is depicted as the "Son of Man" in some parts of the book of gospel. Maybe to show that our omnipotent Lord and Saviour Christ was also human, so that He knows and feels compassionately the pains and struggles we experience in our daily lives....These verses also tell us that the Son of Man has the authority to forgive sins and consequently heals the paralytic and tells him to take up his mat and go home. We should think about how much power and authority Christ has in our lives. Further, do we have the faith of the paralytic, who was obedient to stand up when Jesus told him to do so? Many times, it's our lack of faith that fails us to follow Christ wholeheartedly in our discipleship. If we really say to Him, "Yes, here I am Lord. I am ready for you," then I believe that Christ will reply to us

I agree, to me, this "Son of Man" concept means that although Jesus was God, he was still human. And this verse seems like he is proving to everyone that even Son of Man, a human, can have the authority to forgive sins. Of course this is possible since he is still God but also it does apply to everyone. I believe anyone who believes in Jesus and seek his help can forgive other's sin and I think that is the only way to truly forgive someone. It is humanly impossible to forgive someone who caused so much pain to you, but through Christ, anything can be done.

Won Min brought up a point I hadn't considered before - the faith of the man who immediately picked up his mat and walked. How often have I refused to believe that I was healed or forgiven? How often have I refused to truly accept God's grace? And by doing so, I have remained paralyzed. I keep myself down.

Herein lies an example of God's omnipotence and our free will. God can give us anything, but we can choose to accept or reject his gifts. Do we choose to believe Him or remain bound by our own fears? Do we choose to follow him or stay within our own familiar comfort zone? We may be miserable and damned, but it's what we know - much scarier to truly trust in another. Much scarier to dare to have hope, to allow for the possibility of change and thus the unknown.

Amen. I know in my life that God makes the impossible possible. Just when you think that all is lost but you still continue to pray that God is listening to you. It is reassuring that God is our rock/strength that he has our back when you least expect it.
