The Book of Mark
Chapter 2 (NIV)

3Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. 4Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

Jesus reveals more and more of his powers. He gives increasing hints about who he really is. What mortal can forgive sins?

And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.
Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, "Son,your sins are forgiven." (Mark 2:3-5 NASB)

During this time, many paralytics were regarded as social outcasts, since the public avoided them believing and blaming that their past sins had caused their physical illness...It's interesting to see the faith of the four friends/people, who carry the paralytic. Regardless of the crowd and hindrances, they dig an opening in the roof above Jesus and get down to meet Him. Although Jesus looks beyond our physical wellness and is more concerned about our spiritual state, we can still see how our compassionate Lord and Savior heals the paralytic because He has love for mankind. It shows that they had faith, believing that Jesus Christ had the power to heal. How about us? Who are the paralytics around us who need the touch and healings of Jesus Christ? Are we willing to carry them to Him, though it could be difficult and long way? Surely, we don't have look around too much, since there are so many people who really need grace and forgiveness of Christ...

This is a good example of faith backed up by action. Because these men truly believed in Christ and had faith in him, their action clearly showed. No matter what obstacles they were faced with, they were able to overcome it.

Of course faith/belief should come first but often we fail to back it up with our action. I liked the example I heard from one of the sermon at my church. Faith and action is like our two legs. Faith is like taking one step and action is the one that follows it. If we only take a step with just one of our legs, we'll never move forward. I pray that all of us will take our faith and back it with actions.
