These verses about the end of time are terrifying.
These 2 verses in particular make me think of Nazi Germany. So many frightened citizens betrayed friends and neighbors, not out of ill will but for their own survival. How difficult it is to do what is right during such times!
If I had lived in the past, would I have been one of those who sheltered my Jewish neighbors in my attic or helped runaway slaves gain their freedom in the United States? Would I have actively betrayed them or passively betrayed them by looking the other way when witnessing injustice. During such times, we need the strength of the Holy Spirit the most. I, alone, would not be strong enough. I pray that I put my faith in God rather than myself.
