Mark 14:39-42

39Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41Returning the third time, he said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"

This is truly sad. On the last moment with Christ, they fell asleep!!!

Jesus shows divine patience and understanding when he tells the disciples that they have slept and rested enough during this time of extreme danger. He doesn't accuse or criticize them of being weak-willed or ill-prepared or lazy. He shows them kind love even though He knows that the flood-gates of their human weaknesses will soon bust open and leave him wallowing alone in a sea of betrayal.

Recreational Golfer, your last statement brought tears to my eyes.

Isn't it funny? Because you heard kind love in his words whereas I heard impatience and rebuke?

How horrible the apostles must have felt when recounting these memories to others. How often have I let down a friend or been disappointed by a friend? How do I react and forgive? I pray that I use Jesus as a model. The Jesus that you described.

as galatians 6:10 suggests, our patience will often be tested most by those most able to disappoint us (like family, friend, and fellow Christians). but as paul encourages in verse 9, "let us not become weary of doing good..."
