50Then everyone deserted him and fled.
51A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.

How desperate the young man was to abandon Jesus! How fickle we human beings are. In an instant, all those people who were so eager to be close to Jesus, became even more eager to run away when he needed them the most.
I love the gospel - for showing the weaknesses of the disciples. For letting us know that as weak and foolish we may be, there is still hope for us.
it's not just that some people started leaving the scene because the armed crowd was viciously butchering innocent by-standers. despite however they rationalized their behaviors, every single person FLED in a manner described as DESERTING Jesus. the situation was such that these people had some sort of choice. how cold is it for anyone -- let alone everyone -- to dump and run like than on your friend, your leader, your SAVIOR?
but really, isn't this what each of us does every time we are tempted by and give in to sin?
