Mark 12:41-44

41. Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
42. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.
43. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.
44. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on."

I am blessed to read this account of a poor widow's offering. I too want to yield and give that which is most precious in my life to Jesus. My time, talents and treasure, I desire to offer them up that my life may testify to the greatness of who God is. While so many things get in the way and cloud my sight, I want my life be found yielding to God and God alone. Lord, you are all faithful, you are all sufficient, I am poor, come down and reign in my life. Amen. God is goood!

These verses reconfirm that Jesus does not look at the quantity (money, serving others, ministry etc.) we give to Him. Rather He looks at the center of our heart. He knows if we just give Him a fraction of our life or if we truly "put in everything - all we have to live on (vs.44)." However, at the same time, we say that we want to give that which is most precious in my life to Jesus, though we can't really abide by this commitment too long...I pray that my life will be a pleasing sacrifice to Christ everyday.

These verses shame me. I am sorry to say that often I give to God and Jesus out of my wealth - or the leftovers of my life, the extra, the parts that I can spare. This must come from a lack of faith. I have to trust in Him fully and have faith that He will provide for me, so that I don't have to hold anything back for myself and the "just in case."
