35While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, "How is it that the teachers of the law say that the Christ is the son of David? 36David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:
" 'The Lord said to my Lord:
"Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your feet." ' 37David himself calls him 'Lord.' How then can he be his son?"
The large crowd listened to him with delight.
38As he taught, Jesus said, "Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces, 39and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.

I think it's interesting that Jesus is beginning to be clearer and bolder in hinting at who he is. It's interesting to see how his teachings have progressed. He revealed a little at a time, preparing the people to hear the gospel. First speaking of repentance and God before beginning to talk about himself.
Finally, I think Jesus was the harshest against religious hypocrites. I think he hated religious hypocrisy more than any other sin. (He was much more patient and kind with prostitutes, tax collectors, murderers). Religious hypocrisy, unlike other sins, also reflects badly on God. How many people have turned away from God and the gospel because of religious hypocrisy?
Morning all, Sorry had to run the other nite at EBS. Here are my prayer requests: 1. Pray for the continued health of my baby Sydney 2. Pray for my wife so she can have enough strength and manage here time with work, school, and the baby 3. Pray for my well being phyically and spiritually in my work, life, and baby. 4. Pray for me at work so I have the strength and wisdom to succeed. Thanks Steven
Those "teachers of the law" have put themselves as the center of the focus rather than God. They acted with their own ways and praising themselves rather than acting on God's command.
Due to our sinful nature and the world constantly tempting us, it is tough to keep that right focus. More appreciation/praise we receive, we should be more focused on God.
I pray that no matter what status/state I am in, I'll remain humble and continue to praise God.
My curiosity and desire to read the Bible get deeper, when I encounter difficult verses like these. ... ...Jesus is the son and heir of David looking at the ancestorial family tree of the Bible. On the other hand, Jesus is the Lord and Saviour of David from a Spiritual viewpoint.
I also pray that my center of focus will be Christ in my every day life. It's so easy to slip and lose the focus in our Christian walk and become like the teachers of the law. I pray that God will continuously help me and guide me in my acts and speech.
