8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." [d] And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper? 10 The LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."

This is the second incident in Genesis, when man gets rebuked by God and is cursed. I wonder how sad and frustrated God must have felt by the time when Adam, Eve and Cain all disobeyed Him, so that he had to drive them out. The creation of man was for His glory and meant to bring companionship to God. Still now, He wants to reach out to us with love, but we still disappoint Him...
It is amazing that sin could corrupt a man's heart so fast. I was shocked when I read this a long time ago. Only few years later since the fall, a man kills another!
How corrupted are we after living in this world for so long?
It is no surprise that there are so many hatred and chaos in our current times.
From this earliest story in time, we see the unfortunate beginnings of many of the realities that have continued to plague secular life ever since: family politics, sibling rivalry, crime (motive, means, opportunity), punishment & justice, self-dependence for subsistence/survival, etc.
