Genesis 8:6-12 (NIV)

6 After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark 7 and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. 9 But the dove could find no place to set its feet because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark. 10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. 11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. 12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him.

At least, he had a window to open, so that he could get some fresh air and look outside...I wonder why two different kinds of birds were sent out, a raven and a dove...It's quite wise and smart how Noah sends out the two birds to check the depth of the water level on the earth. He knows that God will give new life on this earth through him and his offsprings, and he seems to be ready to take on this new challenge. Rather than being scared and waiting in the ark, Noah seems to know that it's now his turn to take action. Accordinly, he sends out the birds to see if the water has receded. In a similar way, we also need to pray for God's wisdom in our lives, so that we can know when it's time for us step up.

It is wise of him to send two types of birds since I'm sure these two birds have different specialties. I don't believe God told Noah to do this rather this came from Noah's wisdom he developed through God's training.

This flood is yet another time of training and we don't see Noah whining or blaming others for anything. He patiently awaits Lord's promise to be fulfilled. Noah's obedience is well worthy of respect and I pray to have this kind of obedience so that I can follow God's will.
