Jonah 3:6-10 (NIV)

6 When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7 Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. 9 Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish." 10 When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.

WOW!

This shows God's authority. Although Jonah is just another human, his words have a great influence because of God's command issued onto him.

Another amazing thing is that people of Nineveh and their king listens and follows the word rather than act in a selfish way.

With God on our side, we are capable of doing amazing things even if we think we are so insignificant and powerless.

As long as we are in this realm, we are never too late to repent and turn to God. Because we are his creation, his love for us will always want us to turn back to him.

It is great knowing and seeing that in the Bible.

At last, Jonah obeys God and goes Nineveh to prepare the people. It's amazing how the people of Nineveh (especially the king) are trembling before the God and cover themselves with sackcloths. We can also see that our God is not only cruel and punishing, but truly compassionate and forgiving. As humans, we are unable when someone does something wrong to us. On the other hand, God forgets all the wrongdoings of Jonah (e.g. disobeying and fleeing from Him...) and just reinstates him. God's mercy and forgiveness is amazing, and we can experience His grace every day when we just acknowledge our sins and approach Him.
