Jonah 1:1-4 (NIV)
1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."3 But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD. 4 Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.

My first QT blog entry! One thing that struck reading this passage is how God uses imperfect people to accomplish some of His important works. The future of an entire region was entrusted into Jonah's hand. But God knew the dispositions of Jonah's heart. God knew about that Jonah didn't view Him as an almighty, all-knowing God. Instead, Jonah saw a demanding and unreasonable God, probably like his boss or elder relative who keeps bothering constantly. So Jonah tried to get away from this small god. In the process, Jonah discovered a God who was much beyond His initial understanding: a powerful, all-knowing, scary to mortals due to His command of the nature, a persistent God who does what He plans despite our flaws, a merciful God, and One who will not be put in the dock by His creatures.
I am encouraged by this passage because it gives me hope. I identify with Jonah's weaknesses, and still, I am hopeful that God would still use flawed characters for His great works.
Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my site, it is about the CresceNet, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://www.provedorcrescenet.com . A hug.
It's quite sad how Jonah runs away from the Lord and heads for Tarshish, despite knowing God's command and teachings. But this is how most of us are as well. Though we claim to know Him and want to become disciples, we turn away from Him once we think about all the complexities and hardships that might befall on us, as a consequence of following Him. Further, we can see that despite Jonah's rejection, the Lord does not give up on Him and sends a violent storm to the ship he sails on. In a similar way, I don't think God would ever give up on each one of us, since we are such precious creations in His eyes... I pray that I will waver and falter as I try to walk the Christian path, and listen to His voice every day.
