Daily QT: 09/17/2007 Mark 9:25-29

25. When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."
26. The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead."
27. But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28. After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
29. He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer."

25When Jesus saw that (A)a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again." 26After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, "He is dead!" 27But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up. 28When He came (B)into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, "Why could we not drive it out?" And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer."(Mark 9:25-29 - NASB)

I was very challenged by yesterday's sermon at my church. My pastor preached a sermon about how we can pursue a life fully experiencing and being guided by the Holy Spirit - "the Pneuma in Greek." As expected, he is told us to be more dedicated and stay alert with our worship service, small group Bible studies and qt's & prayers. Among the things he mentioned, he emphasized how important it is that we "re-submit ourselves to the presence of the Holy Spirit each day so that He can work within us." Too many times, we take our salvation for granted and simply seek the grace of God in our daily lives. However, it's also important that take the first step in our daily lives to submit to Him - to make myself available to Him by coming forward to Him in prayers. The more we pray and have intimate relationship with Him, the more faith we will have in our Lord Almighty. In today's passage, we can see how puzzled the disciples are since they were not able to drive out the demon that occupied the boy. Jesus' answer is very simple...He says: "This kind can come out only by prayer." In fact, I want to be more dedicated in my daily prayer life, and I pray that the Holy Spirit can lead me to Him every day.

We can't do any such acts other than by prayer. It is not that we are so powerful and with sheer will power we perform such miracles. Everything is through God that makes the impossible, possible.

I too pray to keep up my continuous daily prayer.
