Daily QT: 09/10/2007 Mark 8:31-33

31He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

I still get shocked whenever I read this verse. What Jesus said to Peter is definitely striking. He clearly communicates to us that going against God for the sake of the "things of men" is evil.

I pray that God will lift my blindness from the things of men to have in mind the things of God.

What strikes me is that Peter must have told people about this. The conversation was private, because Peter had taken Jesus aside to rebuke him. How humbling it must have been for Peter to repeat to others what Jesus had said to him. Yet Peter understood how vital it was to honestly share the gospel.
