Daniel 5:5-9 (NIV)

5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his knees knocked together and his legs gave way. 7 The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers [b] and diviners to be brought and said to these wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom." 8 Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. 9 So King Belshazzar became even more terrified and his face grew more pale. His nobles were baffled.

That's really creepy....How terrified and speechless the king must have been to see fingers writing on the plaster of the wall.Until this point, the king probably thought he could do everything through his authority. Since he has his wealth, power and all the supportive people around him, he must have felt secure. But we see how helpless he is as God is interacting in his life for the first time to strike him.... This example shows us that our omnipotent God is stronger and better than anything we could think of in this world. We have to remain humble and submissive to him every moment of our life.

This indeed must've been frightening!
And even more so since no one could read it!

The interesting thing here is that the king takes this very seriously!
So serious that he is willing to give 3rd highest rank in his kingdom.
