Daniel 4:1-8 (NIV)

1 King Nebuchadnezzar, To the peoples, nations and men of every language, who live in all the world: May you prosper greatly! 2 It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. 3 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation. 4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented and prosperous. 5 I had a dream that made me afraid. As I was lying in my bed, the images and visions that passed through my mind terrified me. 6 So I commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to interpret the dream for me. 7 When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers [a] and diviners came, I told them the dream, but they could not interpret it for me. 8 Finally, Daniel came into my presence and I told him the dream. (He is called Belteshazzar, after the name of my god, and the spirit of the holy gods is in him.)

In the previous chapter, this same king Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and ordered them to be thrown into the blazing furnace, since these three were not willing to fall down and worship the image of gold which he had created. But miraculously, these three survived the fire without any harm, so that the king was convinced that they were servants of the Most High God. Hence, we can see a sudden change of King Nebuchadnezzar's behavior toward God. He no longer practices idolatry, but praises God.... Thinking about these verses, I get reminded about how people in the Book of Matthew start to believe after they see signs and wonders by the hand of Jesus. Jesus Christ refers to us as "a wicked and adulterous generation that looks for a miraculous sign." In the same way, we should critically examine our hearts why we are drawn to Christ every day. We should have faith in Him not because He has done something to please me in my every day life. Rather, we should just remain faithful and obedient because, because He is our Saviour and our Lord in life.
