Before, when I was a follower of Christ, I often thought about what it meant to be righteous and pleasing to the Lord. And I sincerely tried to live a righteous life. Then I started to move away from Christ, and I started to concentrate more on what was pleasing to me, and rationalizing that if there was a God, He would understand and approve. I began to make God in my image. Since my baptism this year, I noticed that I again began to want to walk "the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." For instance, when my ego would flare up and I would get overly angry and want to be rather nasty to someone, the thought would pass "God wouldn't want me to be like this. Remember how Jesus was." His example again shines before me.

Related to my comment on verse 2, our desires cannot be fully satiated by what we find in this world. Only God can give us anything and everything we truly need. We are like lost sheep spiritually-speaking (as Suejin mentioned earlier) and our spiritual longing requires His intervention. It's God as our shepherd who must rescue and restore us to where we want to be. Following our natural desires, which are generally dictated by the temptations of evil, will only get us more lost.

As soon as I accepted Christ as my savior and receiving the Holy Spirit, I could feel my soul being restored.

Without his guidance, it is so easy for us to be mislead on our own. "for his name's sake" always have a strong appeal for me... reminding me that it is not for my sake but for him. This is not for my glory but for his. Though often there are constant struggles between my selfish nature and going with his lead, I do find comfort in his words and continue to pray.

he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake..... wow...that's a very soothing and encouraging verse. This verse shows that we have not been saved by Christ because we are good or worthy. But it was because for His name's sake that we have been chosen as His righteous children. It's very appeasing in the sense that He restores my soul and guides me all the time....
