Psalm 19:1-2
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. (NIV)
The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. (NASB)

I am posting everyone else's emailed responses today, because I learned so much from everyone.
In order:
I have always felt closest to God when I am out in nature. It does feel like the skies are calling out to me - because something in my heart calls back. Unfortunately, I rarely take the time to hike or kayak or even sit at the beach - to really take in God's work. Funny, because this verse ties into yesterday's verse for me. I realize that I feel closest to God when I am still/quiet before his great works of nature. Being out in nature stills/calms/refreshes my spirit. - Sue Jin (p.s. I love starting my mornings like this and I love reading everyone else's responses.)
sometime i catch myself thinking: my focus on God would be more stable
if He could just reveal himself more clearly to me -- not quietly
inside of me but in some more externally visible and tangible manner.
in this verse i'm reminded that God's presence completely surrounds me
in both time and space. i guess it's hard to get much more obvious
than that. nevertheless, He went the extra mile by putting Christ on
earth to serve our sins. now how could there be clearer proof of His
glory? but still only a limited proportion of those lucky folks who
lived in Christ's lifetime ended up as believers. we are just pieces
of dust and yet somehow we constantly revert to believing that the
universe revolves around ourselves. and the funny thing is that God
continues to love us and shower us with His grace and make us feel
like we really are eternally special. amazing.
i agree with suejin. taking time out of my "busy" schedule to marvel
at His works -- great and small -- is so refreshing and re-energizing
for me. maybe we can meet for fellowship outside some time. maybe as
part of a fishing outing? (Rocky)
I too see that this verse ties in with yesterday's verse. His works (in
nature) help me see that He is God and I am His creation. He is big (them
big mountains..), infinite (them starry starry night), beautiful (my
flowering orchid plants which refuse to die), glorious (the sunset view i
used to have before they stuck me on the 3rd floor here), etc. I hope I will
take the time out to savor and marvel at His beauty and praise Him for who
He is. God is awesome, and we need to go camping or fishing. (Woosub)
Good morning all,
I feel the same with Sue Jin. Every time I'm out in the nature and see God's creation, something stirs my heart. I also ask how come non-believers can't see God when they see how beautiful his creations are.
Often I feel that we find ourselves surrounded and drawn by our creation such as buildings, cars, etc. We often praise the work of people and are so focused on "our own" accomplishments. This usually blinds/blocks/distracts us from seeing God's work. It is sad that all we have to do is just look up at the skies to see and feel God's "work of his hands" but often we find ourselves neglecting God. It can be even simpler when we think about the very breath we take in and take for granted..
"Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display
knowledge."
I am going to meditate on this part of the verse a bit more... (Michael)
wow...that looks great
As we remember from the Book of Genesis, God took 6 days to create everything for us. In Genesis 1:31, it says: "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. " This shows again how much He loves us and cares for us, so that we can take comfort and joy in God's creation. As many of you said, it is marvelous at times to look at the beauty of the nature and its environment. It says in today's verses that even the heavens and expanse acknowledge the glory and work of His hands. The more I read and mediatate on this verse, I feel that I am getting smaller and more fragile before the presense of our living God. I pray to live a life to acknowledge His presence and reign in my life today. (Wonmin)
