Genesis 17:9-14 (NIV)
9 Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."

I wonder why God put such a strong emphasis on circumcision-sign of the covenant between Him and the Israelites. I suppose that covenants were important back in the Old Testaments, since they were the only oath of trust and faith between God and man. If a man held on to the covenant, he was deemed as a faithful and righteous person. If not, he was cut off from his people (Israelites) and from most importantly, God. How lucky we are to live in the New Testament era. One mistake cannot cut us off from the eternal love of Christ, and He even symphathizes with us sinners and even helps us with His spirit to overcome temptations and hurdles in our lives.
Do or don't there is no try...
This quote seems to represent God of Old Testament fairly closely. However although we do live in the time of Grace, it is no different from the ear of Old Testament. Either we obey God's command or we don't. There isn't any gray area.
God makes and keeps his promises but do I do the same? I make promises but those are broken whenever I feel like it. I pray that my heart will continue be changed/circumcised into His likeness.
