Genesis 16:11-15 (NIV)
11 The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, [a] for the LORD has heard of your misery. 12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward [b] all his brothers." 13 She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen [c] the One who sees me." 14 That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi [d] ; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered. 15 So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

I am not too sure if being a wild donkey is a blessing or a curse. It gives me the feel that God will elect Ishmael to become a warrior who will be fighting all the time. Regardless, we can see how God works through an individual's like (Hagar) and still blesses her life, though she is a maidservant by nature. Hence, it's important for us to keep the patience and composure in many situations, so that God can work through and within us.
This sounds pretty bad... wild donkey of a man... so is that a slave? His hands will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him...
I wonder what kind of child God would've given her if she waited for the Lord's promise to be fulfilled without taking things into her own hands.
Often we get impatient and try to take the situation with our own hands thus usually disobeying God's commands. Yet our God, full of grace do turn our mistakes into something good when we continue to make the effort to be committed to him.
