Genesis 12:17-20 (NIV)

17 But the LORD inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram. "What have you done to me?" he said. "Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!" 20 Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

Honestly, I am very surprised that God inflicts serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household. I think that Abram is the one who should be punished for his lack of faith and cowardness. Rather, God still protects him and makes sure that Pharaoh returns Serai back to him. I assume that Abram is under protection because of the covenant that God has set up. We can see that our God is a God of promise who really watches out for all of us.

Whoa talk about keeping His words!
It is shocking that the Pharaoh who had no intention of taking another's wife getting serious diseases for Abram's action. This is like how a master punishing the innocent slave as part of his son's wrongful act.

I believe God did this to show Abram how serious He is and how He keeps His promise. The thing which follows is pure obedience/trust to the Lord and the responsibility that comes.

As Christians, we should also be watchful for our acts.
