Mark 15:25-32

25It was the third hour when they crucified him. 26The written notice of the charge against him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS. 27They crucified two robbers with him, one on his right and one on his left. 29Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, 30come down from the cross and save yourself!"
31In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! 32Let this Christ, this King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe." Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The irony of the people's words is obvious to us now - because of our distance, perspective and knowledge.

I imagine this must be the tiniest glimpse of what God must experience when he is inundated with our prayers and curses. "oh if you only knew ... be patient ... yes, I am answering you even now ... be careful what you wish for ... i'm right here, but you don't recognize me ..."

Our perspective is so small. They taunted him for being "The King of the Jews." Some were angry that he didn't try to be a political rebel and actually be "The King of the Jews." They did not understand how truly he was and is the king, not only of the jews but everyone and everything. They did not recognize his mortal body as being the true temple of God - housing God more completely than any man made edifice.

"Thank you for the Cross, thank you for enduring all the insults that you had to take in order to save all the pitiful sinners like me..." these are the words that echo from my heart as I read these verses. I would love to shout out to all the people at the scene: "It's NOT TRUE that Jesus is not able to come down from the cross and save Himself..."

I once thought like the priests and the crowds. If you are the Son of God, why not come down from that cross and destroy those who oppose you? Why not use the power and show that you are God!?

I can understand their reasoning and how lost they were, always looking through their perspective rather than through God's.

I pray that through the guidance of Holy Spirit, I'll continue to focus on God and try to look through him not from my own.
