Luke 2:15-20 (NIV)

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

It's interesting to see how quickly the shepherds obey and act upon after the Lord tells them to go Bethlehem. When they had seen the baby with his parents Joseph and Mary, the shepherds could not stop themselves but spread the word concerning what had been told them about the child, who is the long awaited Messiah. Consequently, all of the the people who heard the shepherds were amazed at what they were told.... I wonder "what story I have to tell about Jesus to many people who don't know Him yet." Similar to the shepherds who were so excited and full of passion to tell the whole world about Jesus, do I also have this zealous desire within me? hmmm...I pray that God can restore my spiritual joy and passion, so that I maybe excited and happy to tell the world about Him.

Every time I have seen the nativity scene, it has always looked so beautiful and rustic w/ soft lighting and hay. That is how I always thought of it as well.

But I just realized that I have been to real barns, farms and stables. They smell. A manger for a baby's bed is not romantic at all. Jesus really was born in very a poor, smelly, non-auspicious place. I'm glad the shepherds came to celebrate the birth, to mark the special occasion.
