Genesis 24:12-16 (NIV)

12 Then he prayed, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. 13 See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. 14 May it be that when I say to a girl, 'Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too'-let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master." 15 Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor. 16 The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

The prayer of the servant is very interesting...It's very detailed and the servant hopes that God will listen to his requests. Sometimes, I really wonder how God wants us to pray, since he already knows our thoughts, desires and the purpose of our prayers. But despite all that, I think God still wants us to lay down everything before Him, although the ultimate purpose of our prayers is "to build a relationship" with Him, rather than the fulfillment of our desires. But I guess God shows favor toward this servant here, because God wants to continue His blessings toward the faithful family of Abraham.

The prayer this servant can be seen to fulfill his own desires but it is ultimately to fulfill God's command. He just wants to make sure he does what he was set to do coming from his master Abraham who got the command from the master of all, God.

I like the honesty the servant shows and the humbleness to ask God for help.

How often do we ask God sincerely?
